Book Review: Winter in Paradise (Paradise #1) by Elin Hilderbrand

In the past several years, I have been off and on liking Elin Hilderbrand’s books; however, the past few newer books I have absolutely loved!

I started reading this in Florida on a December vacation with my family. Even though I was able to read this while I was sunbathing by the pool, I fell in love with the description of St. John. I have to admit that I started googling pictures of the island and vacation spots there while I read this book!

The premise started with a topic often used in books and movies; a man dies and a woman finds out that he had a secret life somewhere else. I’ve read many books like this since I read The Pilot’s Wife back in college.

The action starts out quickly; Irene wakes up to a phone call that her husband has died in a plane crash on St. John island.  Irene is in shock because her husband wasn’t supposed to be in the Caribbean on business! Irene plans a quick trip to St. John with her two sons to start investigating which appears to be a web of lies.

Elin Hilderbrand does what Elin Hilderbrand does best……..she creates characters that you can fall in love with as a reader. The reader gets to know Irene and her sons, Cash and Baker, as well as a female character, Ayers, who lives on the island.

I cannot wait for the second book in this trilogy! I’m hoping I don’t have to wait until next winter!!

I gave this 4/5 stars on Goodreads.
