First of all, I need to read Mejia’s other book after reading this amazing book. Mejia is a beautiful writer and writes with such description and depth. I was mezmorized by her writing the whole book.
Maya is a former patient in a local psychiatric facility and now works at this facility as a speech pathologist. Lucas is an 18 year old boy who the public assumed dead until he showed up in an outdoor store stealing items needed for survival. Lucas and his father had gone missing 10 years prior. Lucas becomes a patient and Maya develops a connection with him. Lucas and Maya create a unique relationship that reveals secrets from the past.
This book reminded me a bit of Magic Hour by Kristin Hannah (which is one of my favorites!!) but also had more of a twist. I was so engaged and couldn’t put this thriller down, especially due to the beauty of Mejia’s writing and description of the forest area in Minnesota.
I highly recommend this book! I gave it a 5/5 on Goodreads.
