Summary:
What Happens in Paradise is the second book of the Paradise series. Irene Steel’s husband was living another life in the island of St. John when his helicopter crashed with his mistress inside. Irene’s world was rocked because she had believed he was a devoted husband and father to his two grown sons. The information that he was living a double life was shocking to their entire family. Irene traveled to St. John in Winter in Paradise and met her husband’s tween daughter she didn’t know existed, as well as the stepfather of her mistress.
In the second book, Irene heads back to St. John, along with her sons and grandson, to do some investigating into the secret life. Irene is trying to find herself in the midst of grappling with the secrets.
My Thoughts:
I really enjoyed this follow up. I love the conversational style of Hilderbrand and the way the scandals unfold on St. John. The details and imagery of the island are so specific and makes the reader feel as if they are right there with the Steel family. The characterization is always done well as usual in Hildebrand’s books.
The newest book features journal entries from Rosie, who was the mistress. The love story between Rosie and her lover emerges from Rosie’s point of view. Whether you hate or love Russ and Rosie’s love story, the reader can now understand how it happened.
I can’t wait for the next book to find out what happens to the Steel family and if the sins of Russ will affect Irene’s life!
