Book Review: 28 Summers by Elin Hilderbrand

Summary:

Mallory Blessing is dying. Mallory’s son, Link, is given instructions to call a phone number in a drawer. Jake McCloud answers they phone. How does Mallory know Jake McCloud? Jake McCloud is the husband of Ursula DeGournsey, who is a Presidential candidate.

What follows this introduction is the story of the relationship between Mallory and Jake………..all based on the magical island of Nantucket.

My Thoughts:

I really feel like I can’t take a vacation without reading an Elin Hilderbrand novel. I absolutely love how Elin writes in a way like a friend would be telling me a story. I loved the characters and the character development.

I read a few reviews after the fact that criticized the fact that this novel focused on adultery throughout the novel. The moral dilemma throughout is definitely thought provoking, but it is a work of fiction.

The ending of this book engulfed me with such sadness! I was sitting in my beach chair crying. When I read the first few pages, I already know Mallory’s fate, but by the end of the novel, I was so emotionally invested in the characters. I finished this in about 48 hours total!

If you are an Elin Hilderbrand fan or a sucker for a bittersweet love story, grab yourself a copy of 28 Summers!
