Book Review: The Wife Upstairs by Rachel Hawkins

Summary:

Jane begins her story in Birmingham, Alabama as a dog walker in a wealthy gated community called Thornfield Estates.

Jane meets the rich and eccentric housewives while walking their dogs and even swiping a diamond or a bracelet here and there from their homes.

One rainy day Jane runs into Eddie. Eddie is a wealthy widower who tragically lost his wife in a boating accident with her best friend. Their bodies were never found.

Eddie and Jane fall quickly for each other, but Eddie’s late wife, Bea, remains in the back of Jane’s mind.

The Wife Upstairs is a current twist on the classic Jane Eyre.

My Thoughts:

The Wife Upstairs had such a buzz about it that I was concerned that it had too much to live up to!

It definitely lived up to the hype! The point of view changes throughout different chapters and the flashbacks help explain a lot of the backstory for both Jane and the relationship with Bea and Eddie.

This is definitely a quick and easy thriller that you can devour in a short period of time.

I can’t wait to see what Rachel Hawkins delivers next!
