Favorite books of 2023

I’ve read the most books I have ever this year…..80 books!

Of course I read mostly thrillers but I did read a few from other genres as well as read some holiday thrillers this December (which I will highlight in another post!) I got to even relax and enjoy some books in Italy this summer, which was amazing!

I also found a new author who is absolutely amazing: Stacy Willingham. I cannot wait to see what else she produces.

The goddess of summer chick lit, Elin Hilderbrand, delivered another amazing summer book The Five Star Weekend.

2023 was a great year for fantastic books!

Favorite thrillers:

All the Dangerous Things by Stacy Willingham: Isabella’s son is kidnapped without a trace and she cannot sleep or stop looking for answers until she finds him

Only If You’re Lucky by Stacy Willingham: releases in January 2024-I was lucky enough to get an advance reader’s copy from Netgalley. This book is absolutely fantastic! It reminded me a lot of The It Girl by Ruth Ware. Collegiate female friendships, murder, lies, and lots of twists and turns!

Just Another Missing Person by Gillian McAllister: A detective searches for a young missing girl but this has many layers of unexpected twists of the investigation

The New Couple in 5B by Lisa Unger: releases in March 2024. I was lucky enough to get an advance reader’s copy from Netgalley. A young couple inherits an apartment in a wealthy building in NYC and things are not what they seem with a bit of supernatural undertones.

The Drowning Woman by Robyn Harding: A homeless woman is befriended by a rich abused woman after she saves her from drowning. The friendship is not what it seems and the storyline is full of twists.

The Only One Left by Riley Sager: This is one of Sager’s best! Kit is a home health aide who is hired to take care of a wealthy elderly woman who had been accused of murdering her family as a teenager.

The Other Mothers by Katherine Faulkner: Domestic thriller surrounding a young mother who is a freelance writer who gets inserted into a murder investigation

It’s One of Us by JT Ellison: Unique storyline of a murderer being the product of a sperm donor who has no biological children he has raised

None of This is True by Lisa Jewell: A popular podcaster meets her “birthday twin” on a night out and starts an unlikely friendship while producing a podcast about her new friend’s toxic life

Look Closer by David Ellis: craziest book I read in 2023!! Secrets, affairs, and greed surround a Chicago couple

Everyone Here is Lying by Shari Lapena: Safe and idyllic town ends with with a missing daughter and lying father…….things are not what they seem

The Kind Worth Saving (Henry Kimball/Lily Kinter #2) by Peter Swanson: Swanson’s follow up to The Kind Worth Killing

The Maid’s Diary by Loreth Anne White: Kit is a maid who has a snooping problem who discovers a deadly secret

Favorite chick lit:

The Five Star Weekend by Elin Hilderbrand: A new widow invites four friends from different stages of her life to spend a weekend with her in her luxurious home in Nantucket.

The Whispers by Ashley Audrain: Unsettling book about suburban motherhood with lots of trigger warnings-more of a domestic mystery

The Little Italian Hotel by Phaedra Patrick: read this cute romance/chick lit book on our summer trip to Italy about a woman finding herself after a separation from her husband-great description of Italy!

Favorite self-improvement:

Drama Free by Nedra Glover Tawaab: A guide for navigating family relationships
