After reading After I Do and Maybe in Another Life by Taylor Jenkins Reid, I had The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo on my “To Read” list. The summary did not sound like something I really wanted to read, because I usually choose to read books that take place in a more current time period. I kept putting this book off for a few weeks, and I finally decided to read this in August before school started.
Monique is an unknown journalist working at a magazine. Her husband just left her, and she’s not had a lot of success as a journalist.
Monique gets summoned to the famous Evelyn Hugo’s apartment in Upper East Side New York City. Evelyn would like Monique to write a biography about her past as a famous actress and Hollywood icon. Her story takes Monique through the path of the marriage to her seven husbands as well as the sad and honest realities in Hollywood in the 1950s to the present time period.
The beautiful writing of Taylor Jenkins Reid creates a vivid image of the life of Evelyn Hugo. I fell in love with the female characters of Monique and Evelyn. This is an emotional and stunning novel that ended up being my favorite book of 2017. I gave this 5/5 stars on Goodreads.
