Summary:
Jar of Hearts is an intriguing thriller that takes place focusing on three best friends over a span of time from high school up until their mid 30s. One of the three never made it past high school. Georgina, Angela, and Kaiser were three best friends until one night Angela went missing. Georgina moved on to be an executive for a pharmacueitcal company. Kaiser went on to be a police officer. Angela was never found.
Fourteen years after high school, Angela’s body was found in the woods. Calvin James, who is a serial killer in their area, is found to be the murderer. Calvin was also Geo’s “bad boy” boyfriend at the time that Angela was murdered.
Geo knew what happened to Angela for the past fourteen years, never saying anything to anyone. Geo is arrested and sent to prison after she admits that she knew about the murder and never said anything to anyone. But it isn’t that simple. There are reasons and secrets buried very deep.
After Geo gets out of prison and returns to a new normal, she finds that there have been murders in the same manner that Angela was murdered. Geo and Kaiser reconnect to try to figure out what is going on.
My Thoughts:
I gave this a 4/5 on Goodreads. The storyline had me hooked and was very compelling. I stayed up late to finish this book although there were many moments in the last half of the book that were horrifying and disturbing that left imprints in my mind. I couldn’t stop thinking about some of the awful details. If you are sensitive to disturbing books, perhaps you should steer away from this book. It was very well written and compelling. I would definitely read another book by this author.
