Summary:
Lucy is a young mother with a complicated relationship with her mother-in-law, Diana, who is extremely introverted and possibly perceived as snobby. Diana is very wealthy and heads an organization that helps young refugees in Australia that are pregnant. Diana’s children often are angered by how much help she gives to these poor women.
At the beginning of the novel, the police come to Lucy and Ollie’s home to inform them that Diana is dead and has left a suicide note.
Through variations of narrators and time periods, we find that things are what they seem in this secretive family.
My Thoughts:
Sally Hepworth is an author that I have relied on for books that I know I will love. She did not let me down again!
I would characterize this as a domestic drama. I wouldn’t necessarily call it a thriller as I have seen other reviewers refer to it.
I love how well Hepworth creates her characters. She writes very well and creates intricate traits and characterizations for the readers about each character.
I highly recommend this book that I received early from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I got to read this amazing book on vacation in Hollywood, Fl!
