Book Review: The House Swap by Rebecca Fleet

The House Swap is the first novel I’ve read by Rebecca Fleet, and I definitely enjoyed this one!

Caroline and Francis receive an offer to “house swap” with a stranger that Caroline has never met. Caroline and Francis live in a flat in London and are given the chance to head to an upscale suburb for a week. In addition the fact that they need a break from the daily chores of work and parenting, Caroline and Francis have a marriage that is on the verge of dissolving.

As Caroline and Francis try to enjoy their time away to work on their marriage, they meet a strange neighbor who inserts herself into their lives……..and it is a bit uncomfortable. Clues begin to pop up in the stranger’s home that the stranger may have actually known Caroline more than she let on.

This novel is told from alternate narrators in the past and present. It starts out a bit slow at first, but once I read it, I realized that the reader needed the background information in order to fully understand the complexity of Caroline’s life. It builds very quickly towards the middle and is extremely engrossing and suspenseful. The ending was shocking and surprising.

I definitely recommend this book! I gave it 4/5 stars
